Depression Medication Treatment Concepts

This webinar will discuss the role of drug therapy in the management of depression and what to expect when taking antidepressant therapy. By the end of this webinar, participants will have a better understanding of the goals of antidepressant therapy, what to expect in terms of timeframes for depression symptom improvement and recommendations around the duration of antidepressant therapy.

Presenter Bio:

Lisa Simon is a mental health program pharmacist with the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health and the Forensic Outreach team in St. Thomas. She has covered both the geriatric psychiatry program and the forensic programs at the former Regional Mental Healthcare London and St. Thomas hospitals. Lisa works with doctors, nurses and students to help provide medication services to patients at the hospital and the outpatient program. Education of patients, health care students/residents and colleagues and individual and group based medications services for mental health needs are a key role in Lisa’s position.

Denise Kreutzwiser is a clinical pharmacist with the Pain Management Program St. Joseph’s Health Care London. Denise transitioned her clinical focus from HIV/viral hepatitis treatment to chronic pain management in January 2017, following the Ontario government’s investment in expanded allied health services at outpatient hospital pain clinics. Denise works as an integral part of the pain management program’s multi-disciplinary team, providing both individual and group-based medication services for chronic pain patients. Educating patients, health care students/trainees, and colleagues about evidence-informed pain medication management is a key part of Denise’s position.
